BARRY DORRITY POTTERY

Handmade Pottery, crafted In Kent.

A BIT ABOUT Me

I make pottery by hand, here in Kent. I’ve worked with ceramics since 1973. A teacher for most of my life, but (relatively) recently retired, I now consider myself a part-time potter. I do still volunteer at the school and also teach ceramics in my workshop, passing my love for handmade pottery on to more.

My current pottery workshop, established when my wife and I moved home in 2000, is in Rusthall, not too far from Tunbridge Wells in Kent. I am mainly a thrower, making a range of one-off domestic ware that is reduction fired to 12800c, generally with one of my two favourite glazes.

My pottery

Most of my pottery is domestic ware: jugs, mugs, vases, bowls, and lidded pots. All such work is oven and dishwasher proof (but thermal shock should be avoided). In addition to my domestic ware I enjoy modelling onto pots; most of these are inspired by landscapes I have visited. Every pot is completely unique.

My  favourite glazes are a rutile blue glaze that I have developed from a recipe in The Glaze Book by Stephen Murfitt and a tenmoku glaze that is a personalised version of a Daniel Rhoades glaze that I have used since making pottery by hand in Coventry in the ’70s.

IF YOU'VE BUT AN INKLING THAT YOU MIGHT LIKE MY pottery...

Not all of the pieces displayed are available for sale, but I will make anything you see to order, if I don’t have it in stock, so don’t hesitate to ask.

THE DETAILS

If you are interested in one of my pieces, please get in contact to arrange to have it made & get it to you. In general, pieces tend to be examples. In each case, we can discuss the item and I will share photos of the exact item available for purchase and possibly give a few options, if available.

I manage payments through ‘SumUp‘, a remote payment system which is simple enough: I share a secure payment link to ‘SumUp’ and upon receipt of payment I dispatch your item.

The pieces will be priced excluding postage and packaging (approx. £40 for larger bowls and jugs ). For domestic deliveries I only use Royal Mail special delivery to ensure coverage for breakages in transit. For all delivery items, including overseas delivery I will contact you with a price for post and packing.

If it is possible to arrange for collection or local personal delivery, which would avoid concerns about breakages that is my preference.
